Confetti Cannon Gender Reveal

I was 19 weeks & 4 days pregnant when we had my anatomy scan to find out the gender of our little one.  Some how I convinced hubby into having a gender reveal party & I am SO glad I did.

It took me a few days to decide how I wanted to reveal.  It needed to be unique.  There are so many cake reveals & balloons in a box reveals floating around social media lately. Not that there is anything wrong with those, you know I just gotta be different. 😉 I tossed around a few ideas but when I stumbled across the Confetti Cannon Kit, I knew that is what we had to do! How fun is that!

I ordered two kits and patiently waited for our April 1st appointment to roll around.  That was the easy part.   Knowing that we had a picture that would confirm little one’s gender and not looking at it for a whole 31 hours!?  Now THAT was hard.

So how did we successfully throw a gender reveal party where NO ONE knew that baby’s gender?  With help from our friendly ultra sound tech, of course!  The cannons are very discreet.  The only way to know what color is inside is based on coding on the packaging.  So, we brought our cannons with us to the appointment, told her our plan & she gladly played along.

We got to watch as she measured baby’s head, heart, & arms. When it was time to measure baby’s legs, she had us cover our eyes as she would confirm the gender shortly after.   It was so suspenseful just sitting there with our eyes covered, so eager to know! But, she was quick.  She printed off the scans & placed the gender revealing one in a sealed envelope.  We then had her draw a heart on the correct colored cannons and scratch out the coding on all of the cannons.  This way neither of us could cheat!

Hubs was so anxious, he tried to steal the envelope from me the minute we left the doctor’s office!  I had to hide it in the house, I wanted us to be surprised together.   Luckily, we were busy that evening as friends and family made their way to our house, excited for the upcoming reveal.   It was the perfect distraction, catching up, swapping stories & finishing up last-minute party details for the next day.

Of course, I had to add my DIY flare.  It wouldn’t be a Lori party any other way!  I made the cutest bows for people to wear their guesses, (WITHOUT a cricut or silhouette….talk about a lot of cutting!!), little pink & blue pom pom decor (These didn’t work as well as I was hoping.  I should have gotten some styrofoam to put in the bottom of the jars. Especially since there ended up being gale force winds…! Oh, well lol), and a pink & blue tissue paper garland (perfect backdrop for photos!).  We also had a sign with Old Wives’ Tales predictions & a sign where guests could place their vote!

When it finally came down to the actual reveal the anxiety was insane!  I don’t even know how to describe all the feelings that washed over me.  Excitement. Nervousness. Happiness.   I was a ball of emotions.  I’m surprised I kept it together as well as I did lol.

The moment was magical.  We stood in our yard, surrounded by loving family & friends as our mother’s popped the cannons to reveal whether our little bundle of joy would be mama’s boy or daddy’s girl. Waiting for our eyes to register the color felt like an eternity. It’s like time stood still in those seconds as we saw the confetti in the air.

I’m so thankful for this video & the pictures we have from this day.  It is a moment I will never forget.  Seeing the joy in my husband’s eye as he realized he would be getting a mini me is the most remarkable thing.   Though, it only took him about 15 minutes before he decided he needed to see the ultrasound to confirm accuracy, lol.

How have you revealed the gender of your little ones? I’d love to hear about your gender reveal stories! ?
